Hi Friends!
I’m Lindsey, a local photographer who has recently teamed up with Grand Rapids Girl to bring you even more Grand Rapids and photography content in new ways! Being genuine is a large part of who I am and who I strive to be. I would like you to get to know me in an open and honest way.
My hope is to be transparent and connect with those of you who can relate, and even those of you who cannot, so that you can understand a little bit of what it’s like to be me! The good, the bad and the ugly… not to sound too cliche!

So the good; photography!
I love it and it’s stretched me in ways I never knew possible. It’s been a way for me to break out of my shell and learn not to be as shy talking in front of people. It’s challenged me to see the world in a different way, and capture it! It’s allowed me to meet a ton of new people, from clients and their family and friends, or even on the business side, meeting fellow business owners and many other photographers as well.
There’s always something new to learn, more to explore and capture and ways to grow in this field and it’s hardly ever dull or boring. When I’m not photographing, I love going to concerts, listening to music, getting lost in a great book, shopping for things I don’t need, or spending time with friends and family.

And now here it is, here’s my bad AND my ugly – anxiety.
You’ve probably dealt with it yourself, know someone who has or heard about it on some form of media. But anxiety is one of those things that if you don’t experience it, it’s hard to understand. I’ve had a couple of people close to me throughout my life who haven’t ever had anxiety, and doubted the truth to it. Some think its something I can control but choose not to, others think it’s “normal” to feel that way, and they think it can be stopped or avoided by taking some deep breaths. Man, I wish that were true! Don’t you? Don’t you wish if you had a “disorder” or a medical setback that you could take some deep breaths and poof! It’s gone? A little Cinderella transformation…Elsa reversing all of the negatives of her powers.

Anxiety can be as simple as feeling uneasy for no reason at all, feeling anxious about an upcoming event or encounter, or even as serious as a panic attack where you literally cannot breathe, slow down or relax. And honestly, most of the time (for me) it’s everything in between. Quite often people who deal with anxiety have days where it’s settled and it’s easy to see the positive and thoroughly enjoy the day! The next day, however, can be the pits. Dragging us down, making us feel worthless and hopeless. Leaving us wondering if this feeling is ever going to leave.
Luckily there’s wine….. just kidding, kind of.
In all seriousness, there are many ways to try to cope with it. Some are more promising and reliable than others, and some that might work for me might not work for you. And that’s to be expected! We are all different and we all feel things and deal with those things in our own ways. Some of the (many) things I personally try are mindfulness & meditation, prayer, talking it out with someone close to me, deep breathing, running/working out and medication. Thank goodness God instilled the brains in doctors and chemists to whip up legal drugs for us “crazies”. #noshame.
So if you’re someone like me who deals with anxiety, in any form, hang in there! You’re not alone and I understand. If you’re blessed enough not to deal with it, my hope is that you’ll be compassionate and understanding to those around who do. Sometimes just knowing we’re not alone, helps.
Thanks so much for reading and I look forward to upcoming posts and adventures on this exciting new collaboration!
