If you are looking at the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre schedule this summer you may be shocked to know the season is wrapping up! Not to worry…the theatre still has a few surprises… the Summer Repertory Theatre Intensive! (otherwise known as SRTI)
SRTI provides young theatre lovers and future Broadway stars with the opportunity to perform and produce their own play or musical. Coached by Civic Theatre professionals, students are given the opportunity to learn the art of performance through specialized dancing, singing, and acting classes. Those with an interest in the technical aspect of theatre are participating in hands-on classes in set and costume design, lights and sound, and backstage crewing.
After weeks of preparation, the students then showcase their work during several public performances!
Grand Rapids Girl had the opportunity to interview these bright young stars. Watch as we hear David, Kristen, Emelia, and Nic answer some thought-provoking questions about how they feel about the characters and what makes them special along with a few other personal stories:

School of Rock: July 27-August 4
Based on the Paramount comedy starring Jack Black and featuring music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, this story follows rock star Dewey Finn through the heartwarming (and sometimes chaotic) journey of training a class of 5th graders for a school Battle of the Bands contest.

Little Women: July 28-August 5
Based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott, this story follows sisters Meg, Jo, Amy and Beth through the trials of growing up and becoming a woman as they fight the pressures of society while remaining steadfast and loyal sisters. A story of family values that will sure to please all ages!
